• Background: The p34^cdc2 is a 34 kDa phosphoprotein with protein kinase activity that functions in the G2/M phase transition of the cell cycle. Expression of p34^cdc2 reflects the proliferating potential of positively staining tissue. The maximal activity of p34^cdc2 is achieved when it is fully dephosphorylated. It is a 34kD catalytic subunit of maturation promoting factor (MPF) and complexes with both cyclin A and cyclin B in mammalian cells.
